Get active at home

No need to don the spandex and head off to the gym. Adding fitness into your everyday activities is easy for example walk instead of driving, use the stairs instead of the lift, jog to the shop for the newspaper instead of having it delivered.

Housework is a workout

This burns a surprising number of calories (around 200 for ½ hour) Your exercise for today is to change the beds, hoover round and mop the floor. The house will look good and you'll feel satisfied by all you've accomplished - and you'll be fitter for burning off those extra calories.

Use the stairs

Find time today to go up and down the stairs 5 times (sets) at your own pace. You should be slightly out of breath by the end of the second set for optimal fitness. Keep at this level for the remaining sets.

Dance your way there

Rain or shine, one great way to enjoy yourself and burn calories is by dancing. Dancing is a great way to tone up, so why not find out if there is a salsa class on near you? If you can't find a class, have a mini disco at home. Just turn up the volume on your iPod or radio and boogie on down. Just 30 minutes of jigging around can burn up to 150 calories.

Let your hair down

Put on your favourite CD and spend 15 minutes dancing in your front room. No one can see you, so you can really let your hair down. You'll burn up to 150 calories and shake off any tension from your day, leaving you invigorated and ready for the evening ahead.

Walk before you run

Hate jogging? Try combining walking and jogging - it's less strenuous but still burns fat. Walk at a brisk pace for 4 minutes followed by jogging for 1 minute. Repeat the walk followed by 2 minutes jogging and so on till you reach 5 mins jogging. This will total around 26 minutes of exercise whilst getting some fresh air.

Enjoy the great outdoors

Gardening is a great way to get fit, so make the most of the sunshine and get weeding and digging. It is widely thought that you can burn as much body fat mowing the lawn as you can in an aerobic class. Exposure to sunlight also increases the amount of vitamin D produced in the body. Just don't forget the sun cream.

Wash the car

You don't need fancy gym equipment to get fit. Washing the car for 20 minutes can burn up to 120 calories, so forget the automated car wash and get out the bucket and sponge for a little hands-on cleaning up.
