Exercising on holiday

Exercising should be enjoyable and fun, so it is important to build it into your spare time and when better than when you are on holiday - you'll feel less guilty about having that second Pina Colada if you've been burning those calories throughout the day!

Use the swimming pool

Holidays aren't just about lying on the pool (although that's part of it.) Try to find 20 minutes each day to get in the pool and swim between 10 and 30 laps. It's a full-body exercise, and just 30 minutes of swimming can burn over 300 calories. Find a time when the pool is quiet, at the start or end of the day.

Shake off that travelling feeling

Sitting on the plane or in a car can make you feel stiff and lethargic plus being inactive is bad for your circulation. Try this quick exercise to keep your blood moving: with your heels on the floor, raise your toes as high as possible and hold for five seconds then relax. Repeat until your legs feel tired.

Exercising on the move

Planes, trains and automobiles move - but you don't so keep your blood circulating when sitting for long periods. Pull in your tummy and place your hands on your armrests. Gradually raise your knees until the back of your legs come off the chair then lower them back down slowly. Repeat until tired. This will increase the heart rate slightly while toning your thighs, hip and abs.

Show yourself off

You can't breath in and hold in your belly for a whole week when you are on holiday, so try this instead. Pull your navel in towards your spine as you breathe in (try not to lift your shoulders) and as you breathe out, pull it in even further. Keep repeating for up to 5 minutes or until your tummy feels tired.
