Here are a few ideas to help unconscious eaters who tend to
either eat on the go or don't really pay attention to what
they're nibbling on!
Stop multi-tasking
Eating whilst doing something else often results in eating more
than you realise or need. Stop and think about what you are eating
and enjoy each mouthful rather than stuffing it down in a rush. By
slowing down and doing one thing at a time you will be able to
listen to your body telling you when you are full.
Take time to eat
Take 5 minutes out for at least one meal and one snack each day
and just eat and enjoy them. If you find yourself eating around the
house then choose one area, like the kitch or dining room table,
for eating food of any sort. If you usually eat alone, try sharing
meals with friends once or twice a week, taking it in turns to cook
for each other.
Have a date at home
If you have a family and partner and tend to eat most nights in
front of the TV, try to create at least one or two nights a week
when you sit and talk to each other whilst eating so that you can
enjoy your food and also each other's company.
Be aware of yourself
Be aware of what you eat and drink socially - it's all too easy
to reach for something to munch on whilst chatting or sneaking that
extra biscuit with a cup of tea. If necessary, take some fruit to
munch on instead.
